Social Distance 2020 by George Brooks
6 - 13 May 2020
George wanted to somehow capture this unique time of lockdown and social distancing but knew it wasn’t his place to try and go out to take photos when the clear message was to stay at home. That was a job for commissioned photographers, not himself.
It took a while to come up with the idea but eventually George figured he could document the story of social distance from his own doorstep and invite passers by to pause for a moment on their daily journey. Nearly everyone George asked said yes and as the pictures show were happy to stop for a few moments. After a brief introduction George asked everyone to stand behind a line a couple of meters away from my front gate while he took usually only 3 or 4 shots. While taking the images he also asked what their journey was about which is a crucial element in the project.
