This collection of large format images is both haunting and symbolic, illustrating the vunerability of the natural world. With this project, Suzy Corby’s objective is to draw attention to the lack of respect that man still has for the beauty of nature.
Each year during the summer months there are numerous forest fires, and in 90% of cases, the cause is human: arson, accidents and carelessness. The pine forest on the island El Hierro (Canary Islands) was burnt 12 years ago as a result of arson.
The language and nature of Corby’s work oblige those who contemplate it to see her powers of observation. This latest collection of images show the stark brutality of forests decimated by fire, and challenge the destructive nature of man. Corby’s intention is to raise awareness and awaken the sensitivities of the spectator. The Barcelona Design Gallery, (BDG) first presented this exhibition in 2011.
