Call for Entries to the 2012 AOP Photographers Awards opens on Monday 19th March.

The AOP Photographers Awards is the most prestigious and highly respected competition for professional photographers worldwide.� Being selected for the Book and Exhibition is one of the greatest accolades available to professional photographers and offers major exposure to art buyers and the creative industry as a whole.� In addition all selected entrants will have an extensive presence on the Awards website.

The 2012 Call for Entries will open on Monday 19th March.� For the first two weeks, there will be Early Bird prices.� After 6pm Friday 30th March, regular prices will apply.� The FINAL DEADLINE is 6pm Friday 27th April.

Located in the heart of Shoreditch, The Hoxton Gallery will host this year's AOP Students Awards Exhibition, Presentation and Party. The Gallery is based at 12-18 Hoxton Street, London N1 6NG, only a short walk from Old Street tube and at the centre of east London's creative scene. AOP Students Awards 2012 - Terms & Conditions�

1. Eligibility
Entry is open to photography students studying within the UK. Students must be studying a BTEC HND or higher. A significant majority of the final image must be photographically generated. Work submitted must not have previously been entered into the AOP Students Awards competition in any form.

2. Entry procedure and format
Entries may only be submitted online through the Awards website (www.the-awards.com).
Each entrant can submit an unlimited number of entries. Series entries must have a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 images. There must be no duplication � images can only be entered into one category, and single images may not be duplicated within a series.

3. Image specifications
Images should be sRGB in JPEG format and no larger than 1280 pixels wide by 1280 pixels high. Your final file size must not exceed 3 megabytes.
You can name each image file as you wish, however, when the entry is successfully uploaded and logged in our on-line entry system, it will be re-saved with a new unique filename to preserve anonymity during judging. Please Note: File names must contain only the letters A-Z and/or the numbers 0-9 and/or the underscore character (�_�) plus the suffix �.jpg�. Any other characters, including further dots, hyphens or spaces, could result in your file being rejected during the upload process.

If you use Colour Management processes on your image files, you must use the sRGB colour space. (Note: NOT AdobeRGB, as this does not display correctly in all web browsers).

4. Dates
On-Line entry will open on the 7th November 2011, until 6pm on the 27th January 2012. Entries received after this date will not be considered. Entrants will be notified of the Judges decision by email before the end of March.

5. Selected entries
All successful entrants will be contacted and asked to supply printed copies of the images, within four weeks of notification. Prints must be supplied as an exhibition-standard window-mounted print (the mount must be thin white card measuring 50x60cm exactly). The image can be any size within the 50x60 window mount.

The AOP Student Photographer of the Year, Merit Award winners and Judges Choices will be announced at the AOP Students Awards Presentation, which will be held in conjunction with the AOP Student Awards Exhibition at a central London location in Spring/Summer 2012 (exact dates will be confirmed closer to the time).

All exhibition prints will be retained by the AOP for twelve months, after which entrants will be notified that they should arrange for their work to be collected.
The cost to return prints by post to the entrant must be met by the entrant. This can be agreed at the time we contact you to let you know that the prints are ready. The AOP cannot take any responsibility for safe return via post.

Any sales of exhibition prints made through the AOP will be charged commission at the rate of 30% to Members of the AOP and 50% to non-Members.

The AOP reserves the right to dispose of any prints displayed in the exhibition that have not been collected by 31st May 2013, as it sees fit and without prior notice. Any monies made from the sale of uncollected work shall go to the AOP.

Any prizes won by participants must be collected from the AOP offices in London; we are sorry, but we are unable to send prizes onto winners.

The AOP reserves the right to request a new print if they deem the entry unsuitable for display (e.g. if of poor quality, damaged or an inappropriate size).

6. Risk and insurance
The AOP and any venue showing the exhibition will not be responsible for any loss or damage to entries or exhibition prints, whether or not caused by negligence. The AOP strongly advises entrants to insure their work accordingly.

Whilst the AOP makes every effort to ensure that the reproduction of images is of the highest standard, we are unable to guarantee the quality of the reproduction in printed material, should we need to do so.

The AOP operates a no refund policy for entries made in error or where there is no fault attributable to the Association. Invalid entries can be removed if we are clearly notified that this is required, but a refund for that entry cannot be given. Further entries should be submitted using the on-line system as before.

7. Copyright
Selected entries may be reproduced in IMAGE magazine and used in various publications to promote these Awards including, but not limited to, print, internet, CD-ROM or other electronic media.

The AOP and its major sponsor(s) reserve the right to reproduce, without fee or prior permission, any work submitted to the 2012 Student Awards in connection with promoting the Students Awards and the AOP Student of the Year. This right will be granted for a period of up to 18 months from the date that on-line entry closes.

Each entrant shall be deemed to warrant that:
(a) they own the entire copyright in the image;
(b) if work is commissioned, it is submitted with the permission of the commissioner;
(c) all necessary model releases and permissions have been obtained; and
(d) any clearances necessary under the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 (as amended) have been obtained. The Entrant undertakes to indemnify the AOP and its sponsors in respect of any breach of the above warranty.

8. General
The AOP reserves the right to use its own discretion throughout the Students Awards process, which may include: disqualifying any entry not complying with the rules or amalgamating categories if they are under-subscribed.
There will be no appeal against the decision of the judges and correspondence cannot be entered into regarding the judging.

The 2012 Judges

The AOP Students Awards is the photography competition that annually showcases the best images from the next generation of photographers. Students are asked to enter their best digital photographs and they can choose from four different categories: Lifestyle & Portraiture, Fashion & Beauty, Landscape, Interiors & Exteriors and Still Life.

This year the judges will comprise a panel of five highly acclaimed industry professionals, including award winning photographer Julia Fullerton-Batten,�Harry Hardie, founder and director of Here,�Michael Regnier, Editor Panos Pictures,�Perry Curties, Editor 125 Magazine and AOP Photographers Awards Gold Winner, Nick Meek.�

Julia Fullerton-Batten�
Photographer�

Julia Fullerton-Batten is predominantly a fine-art photographer. Her work is exhibited worldwide to wide acclaim. Her photographic work was first recognised in the AOP assistant awards in 1998. Every year since then the AOP has featured her work in their awards, most recently her latest project, "Awkward", 2011. She won the HSBC award for her fine-art series "Teenage Stories" in 2007, and was a Hasselblad Master in Fine Art in 2008. She has won innumerable international awards and has a permanent collection of her work at the National Portrait Gallery, London and the Musee de l'Eysee, Lausanne. She has judged the Sony World photography awards, the AOP assistant awards, Terry O'Neill award, the D&AD awards, and the Taylor Wessing Awards. A book titled, "Teenage Stories", by Actes Sud, was published in 2007.

Harry Hardie

Harry has been working with photography for 10 years, starting as the assistant to the director of photography at The Times, London, then as the photo editor for The Times Luxx Magazine. Michael Regnier

Michael started his academic career at the Sydney Rabbinical College and went on to study at the Lubavitch Rabbinical College in Brooklyn, NY. He decided against completing his theological studies and studied History and Politics, graduating with a BA Honours from London�s Guildhall University, now Metropolitan University. After university Michael worked at Der Spiegel as picture researcher and editorial assistant to the magazine�s foreign correspondent. Leaving Der Spiegel in 1998 he became assistant to the director of the Independent Photographers Group (IPG), a core group of photographers at Katz Pictures, including Tom Stoddart, David Modell and Zed Nelson. In 1999 Michael started working for Panos Pictures and has been working for the agency ever since except for a 10 month break in 2010 where he left to explore other interests and travel across Europe. Michael speaks fluent German and Hebrew.

Perry Curties
Photographer and Editor of 125 Magazine

After graduating from art college in 1996 Perry spent 5 years assisting a number of high profile photographers in London and New York and has since become a highly regarded fashion photographer working with a wide mix of commercial and editorial clients who appreciate his ability to visualise narrative themes and combine them with exceptional lighting and subtle post production. Perry�s desire to experiment eventually led to the realization that window-space for new ideas in contemporary editorial photography was very limited, so in 2001 he launched 125 Magazine which is now a highly successful �gallery space in-print� offering photographers an open and unbiased platform for new and inspiring work.
